Galaxy is making a strategic move back into the retail lending space with the launch of its GalaxyOne Crypto Portfolio Line of Credit. This new offering allows eligible U.S. clients to borrow cash using their holdings of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana as collateral without having to sell their digital assets. Unlike traditional loans that require separate applications for different coins, this revolves around a single line of credit where multiple assets can be pledged together. The service currently carries a variable annual percentage rate of 8.99 percent and operates at a fifty percent loan to value ratio, meaning a client with one hundred thousand dollars in crypto could potentially access fifty thousand dollars in liquidity.

The timing of this rollout comes during a period of renewed optimism in the cryptocurrency markets, but it arrives with significant safeguards designed to avoid the pitfalls of previous industry crashes. Many investors still remember the 2022 collapses of firms like Celsius and BlockFi, which saw customer funds frozen and widespread losses due to risky practices. To distance itself from those failures, Galaxy emphasizes that it does not engage in rehypothecation, meaning it will not lend out or reuse the collateral provided by its customers. Additionally, those who have staked their Solana can continue to earn rewards even while utilizing the assets as backing for their credit line.

Operating through GalaxyOne Lending LLC, the service is available across forty U.S. states, though several including California and Nevada remain excluded. Users can receive their draws almost instantly in US dollars or USDC stablecoins, with Galaxy providing continuous monitoring of collateral values to warn users before any liquidation actions are taken. According to Zac Prince, managing director of GalaxyOne, the goal was to leverage institutional grade infrastructure to provide a level of security and flexibility that had been missing from the retail borrowing landscape following recent market volatility.
